The Fretboard: A Very Common Power Chord Voicing

A common power chord voicing is to include the root note of the chord a second time but an octave higher.

The Power Chord shape is the same whether its root is on the A string or the low E string. Here is C5 played in two different locations.

For bass: Although the diagram shows six strings, every active note is on the shared E–A–D–G strings. Use both shapes at the same fret locations; they sound one octave lower on bass.
